I’m So Emotional
Just a short little post today. I wanted to share with you two fabulous resources I’ve come across in recent months. They aren’t historical per se, but have proved useful in developing my writing craft.
I realized in my writing that my characters needed more emotional punch. I had characters “going through the motions” with nothing to connect the reader. So I did
some googling and read some helpful posts at Romance Divas and came across Margie Lawson’s class packets. I downloaded both and have found them soooo amazing. She has one called Empowering Characters, and and another called Deep Editing. Both interweave lessons that show you haw to better use emotions to really make an impact with your writing. Her website is www.margielawson.com
The second resource I have stumble across and now have bookmarked is The Bookshelf Muse website. I give it a 5 star rating. They have a list of over 50 emotions and how a character’s body language would react to or convey that emotion. They also have an awesome list of settings, like a a Halloween party, or a hospital, a high school, or dragons’ lair, or an airport. What’s great about the setting list is the authors of the site have give a list of things you would see in these places, awesome descriptive words associated with the setting as well as sound words and things you might smell, too. Go check out their website – http://www.bookshelfmuse.blogspot.com/
